Can I use a casement window as a fire escape?

Yes — a side-hung opener is the usual fire escape option. Building Regulations require an egress opening of at least 0.33m² and at least 450mm in both height and width for habitable rooms above ground floor. Our designer has a fire-escape toggle that sizes the opener to comply.

Yes. The standard 28mm argon-filled double glazed unit with warm-edge spacers achieves an A window energy rating in the Eurologik system. Triple glazing is available where you want lower U-values still.

A casement window is a window with sashes that open outwards on hinges — side-hung like a door, or top-hung as a vent — usually combined with fixed panes in one frame. It is the most common replacement window style in the UK, and it is the style we specialise in: every window we sell is a made-to-measure casement built in Britain from Eurocell's Eurologik chamfered 70mm system.

You design the window yourself on this site: pick a layout, type your exact millimetre sizes, choose colours, glazing and hardware, and the price updates live as you go. We manufacture it and deliver it to your door — supply only, so you or your fitter install it.

Layouts: fixed, side-hung and top-hung

Casement windows are built from three kinds of section. Fixed panes are glazed directly into the frame and don't open — they're the cheapest and let in the most light. Side-hung openers are hinged at the side and swing outwards fully, which makes them easy to clean and the right choice where you need a fire escape opening. Top-hung vents are hinged at the top and open outwards at the bottom, good for night-time ventilation in any weather.

Our designer lets you combine these in one, two or three columns with optional top vents, and you control where every mullion and transom sits — the drawing is to scale at your sizes, so what you see is what arrives.

Sizes we can make

Frames can be made from 400mm up to 3000mm in width and height. Side-hung openers run from 400mm to 1300mm wide; top-hung vents take a drop between 400mm and 1300mm. Individual panes are limited by the glass sheet: every pane must stay under 1400mm in at least one direction and under 2500mm in the other. The designer enforces all of these limits as you type, so you can't order a window that can't be made.
